Summary:imageIn 2009, prior to the announcement of the April budget, the SDC presented its advice to Government on how to revive the UK's economy through a green recovery package called A Sustainable New Deal.

Our proposal argues that a substantial recovery package is crucial for the recovery of the UK economy. We recommended that the Government should spend up to £30bn a year for the next three years, and that at least 50% of that package should be focussed on low-carbon, sustainable investments.

Our six priority areas for spending were:

• Upgrading existing housing stock
• Scaling up renewable energy supply
• Redesigning national grid
• Promoting sustainable mobility
• Low-carbon investments in public sector
• Skills for a low-carbon, sustainable economy
