Summary:The final report of the Sustainable Consumption Roundtable sets out how a significant shift towards more sustainable lifestyles is possible and positive.

The report concludes that people are ready and willing to change but need strong leadership and support from central Government and business.
Recommendations:- Government can be bolder about driving markets

- Reward households for sustainable practices

- Introduce a carbon offset on flights on an 'opt out' basis

- Central government buildings and transport be carbon neutral by 2012

- Commit to an ongoing programme of deliberative fora with the public

Your comments

A good report, reasonably difficult to read, but focuses on the reality of the situation we are facing and practical solutions.

The below commenter said it was "outdated." Can they be more specific? What is outdated? The ensuing crisis of an unsustainable planet or the practical solutions?

If the the former, please explain how sustainability is no longer an issue because it seems ignorant to think so.

If the latter, then please provide reasons as to why these methods are no longer applicable. Are there newer methods which more effectively reduce the use of natural resources or have governments, businesses and population masses all over the world already applied said knowledge and application in their lives?

I'm sure the authors would appreciate more constructive criticism. Thank you

Nice report, good balance between accessibility and technical background.

To one of the earlier posters, the word "cycle" is mentioned on p.1 .

Not the easiest of reads, but a good level of information, lets hope the government act on the advice before it is to late!

Absolutely no mention of bicycles as transport ? Amazing. They are the means for nearly a third of all journeys in the Netherlands. There is more to gain by building infrastructure for mass cycling than by getting people to have slightly more efficient cars, and it is a lot more socially equitable too.

Boring to read, totally out dated!
