The Sustainable Development Commission welcomes today’s publication of The Sullivan Report: a low carbon building strategy for Scotland.
The strategy is the result of recommendations from a panel of experts which met in September 2007. The panel brought together Scottish experts in construction and energy, along with experts from Norway, Denmark and Austria who have experience of the strict energy standards in their home countries.
Maf Smith, Director of the Sustainable Development Commission Scotland commented:
"We welcome this strategy which sets a clear direction for Scotland on new buildings. It is more holistic and goes further than the current strategy in England which only considers new homes, not all buildings.
"The Sullivan Report also recognises that action is needed to improve the energy performance of existing buildings. We hope that in taking forward the recommendations of this report, the Scottish Government also thinks through what contribution energy efficiency in our existing buildings can make to Scotland's climate change targets."
