The Sustainable Development Commission appointed its first Scottish Director, Maf Smith, in November 2006. Maf has now been joined by a new team to take forward work in Scotland. This reflects the enhanced role the Commission will assume as a result of 'Choosing Our Future: Scotland’s Sustainable Development Strategy'.
The new team will be working with the Scottish Commissioners, Professor Jan Bebbington, Vice Chair (Scotland) and Hugh Raven, as well as the Commissioners and secretariat based elsewhere in the UK. The Commission’s role will continue to be as an advocate and adviser to the Scottish Executive on sustainable development, reporting directly to the First Minister.
Professor Jan Bebbington welcomed this important development,
"This is an exciting time for the Commission as it grows to take on new responsibilities."
Scottish Director, Maf Smith said:
"The SDC has already established a strong track record for the quality of its analysis and advice to the Scottish Executive. I am delighted to be heading up the new team in Scotland and growing the organisation to create a centre of excellence on the policy and practice of sustainable development."
