Seeking new climate heroes

Challenge Europe logoThe British Council is searching for twenty of Northern Ireland and Ireland’s most motivated young people to join them in tackling the global challenge of climate change.

The call, aimed at 18-35 year olds, is the start of a three-year campaign called Challenge Europe which will recruit teams of Climate Advocates from 15 European countries to collaborate on taking action to tackle climate change.

The British Council’s Deputy Director, Gillian Belbin, said : "Scientific consensus suggests there is just one generation left before we face the potentially devastating effects of climate change. We are looking for young dynamic people with passion and drive to help us transform the way we all use energy, forever. Challenge Europe offers this generation the chance to focus valuable time and invaluable talents to find real answers to the climate crisis."

The SDC is offering its support to the project. NI Director, Jim Kitchen, said, "This is a huge opportunity for anyone who wants to explore solutions to climate challenges with other people across the island of Ireland and Europe. The team will participate in local and international visits and study tours, develop networks and interact with leaders, public figures and specialists from different sectors of society. This is a real chance to share best practice across Europe and promote unique ideas that will accelerate change towards a low carbon future for all of us."
