Vice-chair completes his work

In April 2008, I will complete my term as the Northern Ireland Vice-Chair of the SDC.

It has been my privilege to benefit from the expertise and the commitment of so many people from all sectors striving to embed sustainable development as the way forward in the 21st century.

I am grateful to all of those people and to my distinguished colleagues on the Commission; together with the dedicated SDC secretariat here, they have helped me to promote the need for sustainability to many different audiences in Northern Ireland.

I have experienced significant challenges as a Commissioner and there has been some progress � not least, the publication of our first SD strategy. With sustainability now embedded in the Programme for Government as a cross-cutting theme, the next challenge for the Commission is to pursue its effective implementation. I will follow its progress with much interest.
