Stewart Davies

Stewart gained a first degree in Physics and then a PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy at The University of Cambridge before joining ICI Petrochemicals Division.

Stewart is the SDC Commissioner for Business.

Stewart has twenty years experience in general management and strategy in industry including Managing Director roles in Corus and Rugby Cement. He enabled the respective businesses to meet challenging new requirements in environmental, health & safety and community expectations, standards and regulation, including the Climate Change Levy Agreement and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. He was a founder member of the Corby Urban Regeneration Company and also of the British Cement Association’s Sustainable Development Task Force, formed in 2004 to set the industry's agenda for the future, and served as a Trustee of the BRE Trust (formerly called the Foundation for the Built Environment). His current business role is Managing Director, Serco Integrated Services.

Stewart brings this operational and strategic business perspective to the role of Business Commissioner at the Sustainable Development Commission. Observing that the markets in which businesses find opportunities for wealth creation are increasingly being shaped by growing awareness of our need to live and work sustainably within the resources of the planet, he looks forward to assisting government and business to cooperate to achieve this change more effectively.
