Aviation Stakeholder Assessment

To inform our advice to government, between March 2007 and March 2008, the SDC and IPPR pulled together a truly diverse mix of organisations, to map out their views and perspectives on aviation and its contribution to sustainable development.

We also hoped that increasing stakeholders’ understanding of people’s different positions on aviation would help inform their own thinking, and help us identify more common ground.

Participants of the Stakeholder Assessment included:
• Around 20 UK-wide government departments and agencies such as the Department for Transport, the Ministry of Justice and Natural England
• Civil society groups such as National Trust and Friends of the Earth
• Business participants including easyJet, BAA, and Schroders.

The Stakeholder assessment comprised 30 one-to-one meetings, three site visits and six workshops. Of these, three workshops were independently facilitated and separately evaluated to make sure the process was impartial and transparent. The Assessment was supported and funded by various Whitehall departments, government agencies and devolved governments. See Annex 1 of ‘Breaking the Holding Pattern’ for more information.

The summary report, tender for the facilitation, transcripts and attendee lists from the three events, as well as the independent evaluation report, can all be downloaded below.

SD Panel Consultation on Aviation

The SDC also ran an in-depth consultation on aviation between July and September 2007 with our SD Panel. As ever the participants views were insightful and provocative, and have been invaluable in shaping our work around aviation.
