![]() | The UK Government Sustainable Development Strategy - Securing the Future (2005) – requires all central government departments and executive agencies to prepare and regularly update an SDAP. |
This can include:
• Guidance as you begin the SDAP process and scope your ideas and approach
• Critiquing SDAP drafts before official clearance
• Highlighting existing tools, case studies and organisations that might be of use.
![]() | The SDC’s SDAP guidance, Driving Change: Sustainable Development Action Plans (2008), underpins the support we offer in this area. Driving Change reflects the experience and learning from the first three years of the SDAP process, building on our earlier guidance Getting Started (2005). |
Building strong working relationships and sharing challenges and innovations across government is crucial to the achievement of joined-up and sustainable governance. Recognising these benefits, we are initiating a network of sustainable development officials across government and the wider public sector, to share experiences, promote collaboration and pursue a more integrated sustainable development agenda.
If you are interested in joining the SD Network, please contact Debbie Dickinson.
In addition to these projects, the team can contribute to internal workshops, seminars and staff events in government organisations, and is developing its ability to offer tailored support to build capability for sustainable development in policy-making and business strategy. For example, in autumn 2007 we ran a series of seminars with staff from Communities and Local Government designed to surface the department’s key sustainable development messages and working issues arising from seeking to apply sustainable development principles. This work is now feeding in to a planned Phase II programme with CLG as outlined in its 2007/08 SDAP.
