The Scottish Green List 2009
23 April 2009
Scotland's top 50 sustainable development champions have been named by the Scottish Sustainable Development Forum. The 50, chosen from over 300 nominations, inspire action through a vast range of projects for a greener Scotland.
The Scottish Green List is an initiative to celebrate individuals making Scotland a better and more sustainable place to live. It shows those who deserve recognition for not just talking the talk, but walking the walk.
A panel representing business, media, voluntary sector and sustainable development chose the Fife Diet, a project making it possible and practical to eat local food, as the best example of sustainable development initiatives.
Presenting the prize to Karen and Mike Small, the couple behind the Fife Diet, Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham MSP said: "Karen and Mike's idea is a simple concept but one which has clearly caught the public's imagination and is making a real difference in terms of reducing our carbon footprint and supporting local businesses."
The list is compiled by the Scottish Sustainable Development Forum, and shows that there is no longer such a thing as a typical environmentalist. Included on the list are chief executives in FTSE companies, SME managing directors, politicians, parents, creative chefs, campaigners, poets and painters, and many more.
Being included on the The Scottish Green List will now create opportunities for these change-agents to meet, discuss, share and learn.
